High Holy Days
HIGH HOLY DAY SERVICES OFFERED AT TEMPLE EMANUEL:
ADULT SERVICE: These services have a dignified, yet warm feeling, and feature a combination of Hebrew and English readings, an insightful sermon from one of our rabbis, an eclectic mix of “classic” High Holy Day choral music sung by our cantor and professional choir, balanced with traditional and contemporary melodies where the congregation sings together. The “Gates of Repentance” mahzor (prayer book) is used for the adult services.
FAMILY SERVICE: These informal, interactive services are designed for families with children between the ages of 6 and 12. They feature an engaging sermon with a story, and participatory melodies lead by our “Intergenerational Choir.” The “Gates of Repentance” mahzor (prayer book) is used for the family services.
TOT SERVICE:Lots of singing and dancing, stories and activities, this half-hour prayer experience for toddlers and pre-schoolers is interactive, energetic and fun. Open to the community. No ticket is required.
TASHLICH: A brief ceremony at 5:00pm at the beach with a chunk of bread and a picnic supper. At Pacific Coast Highway and Temescal Canyon. Open to the community. No ticket is required.

YOM KIPPUR AFTERNOON MEDITATION: The Chapel will be open for individual meditation.
YOM KIPPUR AFTERNOON CONTEMPORARY ISSUES: The Contemporary Issues discussion on Yom Kippur afternoon will be from 2:45pm to 4:15pm in Bess P. Maltz Center. No tickets are required. The Haftarah that we read on Yom Kippur morning, from the Book of Isaiah, challenges us to make real in our lives the values that we study throughout the day. Therefore, we will again spend the afternoon exploring contemporary social issues. Details will be forthcoming.
YOM KIPPUR AFTERNOON TORAH SERVICE: From 4:30pm to 5:30pm, in the Corwin Family Sanctuary on Yom Kippur afternoon. The afternoon Torah portion is Kedoshim. The Torah reading will be followed by a dramatic reading of the Haftarah, the Book of Jonah. The Gates of Repentance mahzor (prayerbook) is used, and tickets are required.
YOM KIPPUR NEILAH / HAVDALAH: From 5:45pm to 7:00pm, on Yom Kippur afternoon, these concluding services are geared to adults. The Gates of Repentance mahzor (prayerbook) is used, and tickets are required.
